The quality and clarity of linseed oil is dictated by the amount of UV rays that the flax seed is exposed to during the ripening process. Since Sweden is far north from the equator, the annual UV exposure is predictable low. Therefore the Swedish manufacturers can consistently provide a clear warm shade of cold pressed linseed oil. Cold pressed linseed oil is best for making paints, because it has an exceptionally high binding power. Since the binding power allows the ratio of pigment to oil to be so low, this oil does not affect the pigment color, even with such pigments as zinc white.
