Natural Earth Pigments from American Mines

American Earth Pigments from Sinopia In past few years there has been a Renaissance in the development of a natural earth pigments industry. Most earth pigments are gained from soil that is rich in iron oxide and these are commonly found as a by product of iron ore mining.

We are fortunate enough to procure pigments from two mines in the southern states. These rich all natural mined Earth Pigments are gained from the Champion Mines, a retired iron ore mine in Birmingham Alabama and the Copper Hill Mine in the southeast corner of Tennessee. Unlike most mass produced pigments, these have very unique characteristics which are only enhanced by such binders as egg tempera or linseed oil
