Paul had his first solo exhibition in Europe in 2009 at Galerie Daniel Vignal in Toulouse, France."Abstraction is not a style, but a state of mind and a way of thinking about action, time and circumstance, confidence and risk-taking, boldness and subtlety." P.L.

Graphite drawings are an important section of Paul's work. Based upon drafting exercises from his years studying architecture, his drawings depict abstraction in its purest form, geometry. Though minimal in logic, the drawings contain richness in developed space and positive/negative relationships.
Paul was born in Chicago and has lived and worked in Chicago, Berkeley, California and now Paducah, Kentucky. After graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, he went on to study oil painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the International School of Art in Italy (under Nicolas Carone and Irving Petlin) and the University of California, Berkeley. Paul has developed classes in abstraction for the MFA program for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where he currently teaches through their cyber-campus.
"A mark, leads to a color, which leads to a space. A line leads to another line, which forms plane that may cover a space. The spaces combine, through tool and media, and a new vista is created. The combinations are limitless, though the growth follows a logic and rhythm. The result carries visual threads that lead our eye from one moment in time to the next. What similarities are born in a minute, day or week of progress?" P.L.
