Burnt Umber Earth Pigments
Burnt Umbers are closely related to Ochres and have long been an indispensable part of any color palette. They have a high proportion of manganese dioxide which give Umbers their unique color. For the gilder, restorer, or decorator Raw Umbers provide an effective antiquing patina. The artist has long appreciated the variety of cool and warm hues, which serve as a valuable shading tool in any sort of painting technique. Among artists Umbers are best known for being used to paint the grisaille or underpainting as well as it's ability to speed up the drying time of oil paints.
